On this show I’ll be covering some news on a just-released, very nice Fuji camera and will discuss some of it’s key features. I’ll also answer a question that was called in by a listener, share one of my favorite photo thingamajigs, translate some photo-babble for you, teach a universally helpful photo technique and much more.

Below are some of the links and images I mentioned in the show.

I have a DSLR that have one of those lcd-screens on the back that you can flip out. It´s a Canon 650D, it also has touchscreen.

Just like you said it works great when you want to take selfies or taking pictures from a low viewpoint (perfect when photographing cats). Also great if you are in a crowd and wanna take a photo of what’s happening in front of you (especially great if you are short like me).

    Thanks for a great show!

Alexandra, being vertically challenged myself, the flipout screen on my compact camera has come in handy many times! 🙂

Great second installment of Pocket Lenses. I too have joined the point and shoot world. As I mentioned in a comment elsewhere on your site, I sold my Canon Rebel XTi which was nice but the smaller Canon G12 takes better photos, fits in my wife’s purse, and we ended up taking 10x more photos a year. I’m a huge fan of the G series and learning to do more with less. I’d love to hear a podcast episode on external flashes as I don’t have much experience with them.

Danno. My main compact camera is a G11. Most of the images you see on this site taken with a compact are from that camera. I plan to cover how to use external flashes in a simple, step by step tutorial coming soon! Thanks.

    Sonny,
My wife let me know of a Christmas gift she is getting me, so I don’t go out and get one for myself. It is the Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR. I have a friend …… and he is a great photographer. ……. semi pro …….. and that is the camera he uses 9 out of 10 times. He let me play with the Fujifilm for a little bit, and I fell in love with this camera. So much can be done with this camera, for such a minimal investment. I was 2….. TWO full city blocks away from a yard sale sign, zoomed in fully, with the intelligent zoom, and I could clearly read this sign. WOW!!!!!!!

Can you please do me a huge favor???? Go borrow one, if you can, and write up a review on this camera. I appreciate, and respect, your opinion.

I just discovered this site of yours today from I believe episode 370 of the GCPC. I have listened to the first 2 podcasts, and will now hit the field to learn…….

Great job on the website, and your podcasts.

    Thank You,
    Don Weakly

Hey Don, I checked out the camera and it looks pretty nice! Here’s a LINK TO IT. As with ANY camera, there are some pros and cons. But this looks like a nice, one lens, “mega-zoom” that has some good features and capability. It’s not as capable as a full SLR, but then again it’s not the price or size of a full SLR either. It’s got an AMAZING zoom lens from 24mm – 1000mm which is really nice. I like the articulating screen. It has a 1/2 inch sensor which is still kinda small (see my ARTICLE here for lots of detail on this). Still looks like a relatively inexpensive camera packed with features and potential!
