    The first question I would ask the photographer about the “second sun” photo is whether a filter was on the lens (such as a “haze” or UV filter). Sonny, I know you don’t use a clear filter to protect the front lens element, so you may not often see this effect, but I do, and when I shoot a photo that contains a bright highlight like the sun or a street light, I often have to remove the filter to get rid of the exact same effect I see in the example photo. Camera lenses are designed to minimize internal reflections, but not designed to compensate for anything you may hang off the front.

      Hey Lee, that’s a good point. I went back and forth for a while, but I no longer use a filter to protect the front element. Here’s a pretty comprehensive test with some good info: http://j.mp/1K8OVAm
