Many people aren’t aware of all the things, both physical and mental, that go into creating an image. There’s the pre-planning: Where am I going to go? What am I going to shoot? What will I need to bring with me in order to get a shot that I “sort of” have planned? I thought of all of these things and made my choices before I drove away from home this morning. It’s certainly possible that I just grab my camera, and drive out in some direction, in hopes that I’m inspired and see something that looked interesting, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But in the case of this morning’s photo hunt, I didn’t have a whole lot of time. I wanted to go to a location, bag the shot and come home with my trophy.
Once I got to the location, I still had more decisions to make. I chose which direction I wanted to be facing and what things I wanted in front of me. I then needed to prepare my gear (which lens was I going to use? What other gear might I need?) and set up for the shot.
